The Orphanage

Rev. Jeyanesan states:

St. John's Mission started in 1989 as a modest Church organization in Batticaloa, on the east coast of Sri Lanka. The Supporters envisioned the need for such an institution to rehabilitate children and women suffering due to the continuing ethnic violence in our beautiful country.

Encouraged by the success of our mission in helping the destitute and orphans, our Supporters endorsed our plans to expand the facilities

  • Set up three Orphanages - one boys' home and two girls' homes. For children who have lost their parents, or have been abandoned;where they will receive love, food and education
  • Support and education programs around Batticaloa, such as the The Kiran Widows Empowerment Project.
  • Several Day-Care centres where children come during the day-time and receive very nutritious food and milk with added vitamins and minerals.
  • Vocational training centres in at least three places. Here the older children receive training for helping them to find jobs after they finish studies and leave the homes
  • A widows training and support centre. Currently, we are able to help nearly 750 children and adults through these programs and another 1000 children in the day care centres, in and around Batticaloa.

Sri lankan widows empowerment project

"The current drought in the area has caused the crops to fail. It is expected that there will soon be a lot of people without food and water. We do have nutritional feeding centres all over Sri Lanka, which would be able to give food to hungry children. Many children receive only one meal or less a day. We would like to give them two extra meals a day in our centres. This costs about $7.00 (about £5.00) per child per month. " - Please Donate.

The cost of a new orphanage is about $80,000, including a plot, the buildings, water well and ground development. The cost to keep the children there, including food, clothing. Education, Medical cost, staff, etc. would be $25 per child per month.

In the eastern sector, they are providing about 2000 children with food, about 400 children are in the orphanages, and about 150 widows received loans.

Rev. Jeyanesan and the others who are involved in this project are continuously seeking to reinforce the message of love and compassion, so that the children grow up to be loving and caring individuals rather than individuals with vengeance in their minds who may resort to the gun at some time in the future.
