Our aim is to recruit at least a 1000 individuals around the world to contribute £5 per month. This amounts to the cost of an inexpensive bottle of wine or two beers. There are many Sri Lankan expatriates throughout the world, who have
left the troubled island, and have prospered. They still have Sri Lanka
in their hearts, and hope for a day when there will be peace in Sri Lanka.
If we wish to build a better future for the Sri Lankans left behind we
need to start now by helping the affected youth. Campaign OrganisersThis campaign is co-ordinated by two expatriate Sri Lankans who have been friends for many years, one a Tamil and the other a Singalese, Trevor Thevarajah and Don 'Lucky' Perera Trevor says "My oldest friend in this country is a Sri Lankan and a Singhalese (Lucky Perera). Whenever we meet we think like Sri Lankans, not as a Tamil or a Singhalese. That is how we used to think when we were living there. We never thought in terms of Tamils, Singhalese, Burghers, Muslims, Hindus, or Buddhists. How are we going to get the ones who have been affected by the war, back to this way of thinking? It is only by thinking this way we will ever stop these children from firing a gun at another in anger or hate. For them to act and behave like that, we, who no longer have to endure
the difficulties as these children do , we who are reasonably comfortable,
have to act and behave in a way that sets an example." |
